10 Common Habits That Damage the Kidneys

1. Not emptying your bladder early:

Once the urine refluxes back to ureter and kidneys, the bacteria can result in kidney infections, then urinary tract infection, and then nephritis, even Uremia.

2. Not drinking enough water:

The main functions of the kidneys are to regulate erythrocyte balances and eliminate metabolic wastes in urine. If we do not drink enough water, the blood will be concentrated and the blood flow to the kidney will not be adequate, thus the function of eliminating toxins in from blood will be impaired.
 

3. Taking too much salt:

95% sodium we consume through food is metabolized by the kidneys. Exceeding the salt intake will make the kidneys work harder to excrete the excess salt and can lead to decreased kidney function. This excess sodium will cause water retention, causing edema. Edema usually elevates blood pressure and increases the risk of developing kidney disease. The daily salt intake should be controlled within 6g per day.
 

4. Not treating common infections quickly and properly:

Common infections, such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, common cold etc, usually triggers or aggravates kidney damage. They do this by causing an acute attack of acute glomerulonephritis or chronic nephritis. So, you will see that people who get kidney disease for the first time or whose illness condition becomes worse usually present in hospitals with a history of cold or sore throat.
If after having cold, symptoms like blood in urine, swelling, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, poor appetite appear, you should consult your doctor immediately, to assess your kidney functions, and start treatment if compromised.

5. Eating too much meat:

Eating too much meat and protein can increase the metabolic load of the kidney. For those suffering from proteinuria, meat consumption too may aggravate protein leakage, worsening renal pathological lesion.
It is suggested that protein intake should be 0.8g/kg per day. This means that a person with 50 kg should consume 40g of protein per day. Meat consumption per day should be limited within 300g.

 

6. Not eating enough:

This is equally as dangerous as eating too much, both of them will lead damages to your digestive organs where is full of mucosal tissues. Mucosal tissues relates closely to your immune system. This is why many kidney failure patients are diagnosed with “autoimmune kidney damages”.
 

7. Painkiller abuse:

The use of analgesics for a prolonged duration may reduce the flow blood and greatly affect kidney function. In addition, patients with analgesic-induced renal failure are more likely to suffer from bladder cancer.
Use analgesics only when it’s absolutely necessary, learn to rest instead of taking to the bottles. If you have been on pain killers for a long term, it’s about time you had a test to access you renal function done.
 

8. Missing your drugs:

Hypertension and diabetes have been shown to precipitate or accelerate kidney damage, so if you are diagnosed as having any of these disease don’t live your life in denial, USE YOUR DRUGS.
This will ultimately help control your condition while also helping to preserve your kidneys.

9. Drinking too much alcohol:

Drinking alcohol without limitation may cause the deposition of uric acid in renal tubules, causing tubular obstruction and increasing risks of kidney failure.

10. Not resting enough:

In our society, hypertension as a severe threat to life is largely due to stress. A common symptom of stress is insomnia. Blood pressure may increase by an average of 2-5mg/Hg because of insomnia. Chronically elevated blood pressure can cause damage to kidney capillaries giving rise to kidney problems. Thus, we need to develop a good attitude to life and strike a good balance between work and rest to protect your kidneys and live a healthy life.
At the early stage of kidney diseases, there are usually no the special symptoms, so lots of patients are not diagnosed until the acute attack appears or the illness condition develops into the late stage. So you should endeavor to do kidney function test from time to time to assess how healthy your kidneys are.
Never ignore the soreness of waist, swelling of the feet, changes in urine color or volume, increase in night urination, pallor, high blood pressure and other such symptoms. Once found, you should go and see your doctor immediately.

5 Ways to Fight Depression

1. Exercise.

Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. But make yourself do it anyway (ask a friend to exercise with you if you need to be motivated). Once you get in the exercise habit, it won’t take long to notice a difference in your mood.
In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Try downward-facing dog or legs-up-the-wall pose (you can find these poses on yoga websites). Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better.
 
 
 

2. Nurture yourself with good nutrition.

Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. If depression has affected your eating, you’ll need to be extra mindful of getting the right nourishment. Proper nutrition can influence a person’s mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don’t feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going).
 

3. Identify troubles, but don’t dwell on them.

Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what’s got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. If there’s no one to tell, pouring your heart out to a journal works just as well.
Once you air out these thoughts and feelings, turn your attention to something positive. Take action to solve problems. Ask for help if you need it. Feeling connected to friends and family can help relieve depression. (It may also help them feel there’s something they can do instead of just watching you hurt.)
 

4. Express yourself.

With depression, a person’s creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood.
 

5. Look on the bright side.

Depression affects a person’s thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don’t forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal.

What is Hosting ?

What is new in Cloud Computing?

In this post, we’ll look at some of the trends in cloud computing and how cloud providers are reacting to address the needs of their customers.
 
Cloud providers catering to niche audiences:
Rather than focusing on just providing a generic cloud that is application agnostic, or an application that is customer agnostic, cloud providers are starting to focus on addressing the needs of specific customers.  They are realizing that generic clouds are not sufficient – a niche focus seeds quicker adoption. Providing customers generic CRM or Sales Force Automation software is not enough – after all these are complex applications that customers use and wield as a competitive advantage; so it doesn’t make sense to adopt a “one size fits all” approach to providing services for every customer. Customers will need the flexibility to extensively customize their applications and environments. Larger providers like Google and Amazon (AWS) are already addressing this need.

Proliferation of Private Clouds

Adoption of private and hybrid clouds are showing a steep rise since they address the consumer`s paranoia of security on public clouds. Larger organizations will typically use public clouds like AWS (Amazon web Services) and Rackspace only for non mission-critical applications, or as test-bench environments, but they will prefer to stay with private clouds for their mission critical applications and sensitive data needs. One of the main banes of cloud computing as far as customers are concerned is that they have little knowledge of where the data is actually going to physically reside once they put it on the cloud.  It may come as a surprise to know that your data may not be residing in the same city, state or for that matter country as your organization.  While the cloud provider may be contractually obliged to you to ensure the privacy of your data, they may be even more obliged to abide by the laws of the state, and or country in which your data resides. So your organization’s rights may get marginalized.  Cloud providers are very cognizant of this fear among some of their potential customers – to allay these fears, providers are giving their customers the option to choose where their data is geographically located.  Larger providers like IBM are already providing services that are highlighting the fact that the data will be localized.  This trend will only continue in the months ahead.

(9)Meditation and yoga can help you to get rid of the pimples. Meditation and yoga help to regain hormonal, mental, physical and emotional balance.

Gene sequencing yields breakthrough for children with rare Parkinson’s-like disorder

Doctors can now use a person’s genetic sequence as the basis for rational drug selection—a sign of how far personalized genomics has come in recent years. A case report published today in the New England Journal of Medicine illustrates the strength of this approach.
The paper describes an extended Saudi Arabian family in which many young siblings suffered from a Parkinson’s-like condition affecting their movement. The children had normal levels of neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin in their spinal fluid, suggesting they should have been healthy. The unique circumstances prompted researchers to use the latest advances in genomic sequencing to identify a mutation in the SLC18A2 gene, which encodes the protein vesicular monoamine transporter 2, or VMAT2, as the cause of the disease.
A team led by Berge Minassian, a neurologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, successfully pinpointed the mutation and treated the symptoms in these siblings. I am certain that in the next few years patients walking into children’s hospitals will have their whole genomes sequenced,” says Minassian. Until now, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been the primary diagnostic tool for people with neurological diseases.
The study’s initial patient was a 16-year-old girl first diagnosed with muscle weakness when she was just four months old. She sat for the first time when she was two and a half years old, began crawling at four and walking—and only with difficulty—at the very late age of 13. Her symptoms resembled Parkinson’s disease, but all her metabolic and MRI tests came back normal. Doctors also ran tests on her 2-year-old sister who suffered from similar symptoms and a red flag showed up in the toddler’s urine, where dopamine levels were below average. The physicians then gave the 16-year-old and her three younger siblings levodopa-carbidopa, a dopamine precursor used to treat Parkinson’s. They were puzzled, though, when the conditions worsened in all four.

Injectable gel repairs damage after heart attack in pigs

As you read this sentence, on average at least one person in the US will have started to clutch her chest. The blood flow to her heart will become blocked and cardiac muscle cells will start to die off and get replaced with scar tissue. This person has just suffered a heart attack and most likely will go on to develop heart failure, a weakening of the heart’s ability to pump blood and oxygen. In five years time, there’s a 50/50 chance she’ll be dead.
                         
There are currently no treatments that can repair the damage associated with this so-called ‘myocardial infarction’ (MI), but a potential solution is now showing promise in a large-animal model. Reportingtoday in Science Translational Medicine, a team of bioengineers at the University of California–San Diego (UCSD) has developed a protein-rich gel that appears to help repair cardiac muscle in a pig model of MI.
The researchers delivered the hydrogel via a catheter directly into the damaged regions of the porcine heart, and showed that the product promoted cellular regeneration and improved cardiac function after a heart attack. Compared to placebo-treated animals, the pigs that received a hydrogel injection displayed a 30% increase in heart volume, a 20% improvement in heart wall movement and a 10% reduction in the amount of scar tissue scar three months out from their heart attacks. “We hope this will be a game-changing technology that can actually prevent heart failure after heart attack,” says UCSD’s Karen Christman, who led the study.
Christman and her team developed their hydrogel by stripping muscle cells from pig hearts, leaving behind a network of proteins that naturally self-assembles into a porous and fibrous scaffold upon injection into heart tissue. They previously tested its safety and efficacy in rats, where they found increased cardiac function and no toxicity or cross-species reactivity.
Similar strategies using naturally-derived scaffolding, such as small intestinal submucosa from pigs in wound patching, are well established. The UCSD study now shows the clinical potential of this approach for cardiac regeneration after a heart attack in a large animal that more approximates humans. Christman has already formed a company based on the technology, called Ventrix, and she hopes to move the product into human safety trials within the year.
Jeffrey Karp, a bioengineer at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston who is working on a glue that can bind cardiac tissue in live rat and pig hearts (as reported in a news feature this month in Nature Medicine), believes this is promising technology. “Promoting regeneration following myocardial infarction is one of the holy grails in medicine,” he says.
But, Karp warns, “it will be important to validate these results in additional pre-clinical studies, and compare efficacy with other approaches prior to marching onward to the clinic.”
